Lam Research Corporation is one of the leading suppliers of wafer manufacturing equipment and services for the semiconductor industry. The company produces a diverse spectrum of equipment, from etch to clean, depending on the technology needs of the customer. In 2008 Lam Research acquired SEZ, now known as Lam Research AG, to augment their product portfolio. With this new acquisition, the company was outgrowing its existing forecasting tool, making it necessary to rethink their system landscape and application requirements. The decision was SAP CRM.
After a successful "proof of concept", ecenta and Lam Research designed a solution that could be adapted to the needs of a constantly changing product portfolio. The solution included SAP software support for a standard opportunity management process combined with a custom-designed forecasting solution. The integration to the existing ECC system was the backbone of the solution. Other legacy systems and custom-built Web pages were replaced with an end-to-end process enabled by SAP CRM.
The implementation was not only a success for the sales organization but also for the service organization of Lam Research. It replaced years of local excel spreadsheet versions with one central forecasting application. Lam Research was able move its process from several different IT systems to one central system, which reduced redundant data entry processes. The state-of-the-art reporting solution provides Lam Research with a central view into the upcoming opportunities of their business.
